for the AFF

The AFF is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2018/2019 AFF High Performance Program (Open & Under-23 age categories) are now open.

The High Performance program comprises the Australian Fencing Team and the Australian Fencing Squad. The 2018/19 year for the Open and Under-23 age groups runs from 1 October 2018 to 30 September 2019.

Fencers who are considering nominating for the HPP should carefully read the documentation contained in the 'High Performance Program' section of the AFF website (www.ausfencing.org). In particular, the AFS & AFT Athlete Agreement sets out the financial and other obligations which apply to fencers participating in the High Performance Program, while the HPP Annual Plan sets out the training and competition commitments required of fencers under the program.

Membership of the Australian Fencing Team (AFT) comes with demanding training and competition requirements relevant to fencers aiming to compete at the highest international level (World Championships). The Australian Fencing Squad (AFS) offers a preparatory program to the AFT, which enables fencers to participate in HPP activities while following a slightly less demanding program.

Athletes should note that the qualification period for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics commences on 1 April 2019 (during the 2018/19 HPP cycle) and includes the 2019 Asian Championships and the 2019 World Championships. To be eligible for selection for the World Championships, fencers must be members of the AFT (in any age category). To be eligible for selection for the Asian Championships, fencers must be members of the AFT or AFS (in any age category).

Fencers who wish to nominate for the 2018/19 Open AFT & AFS can do so by clicking here. You can see who has nominated already by clicking here. Nominations close on 5 September 2018.

Fencers who wish to nominate for the 2018/19 Under-23 AFT & AFS can do so by clicking here. You can see who has nominated already by clicking here. Nominations close on 5 September 2018.

Fencers who nominate for the AFT but are not selected will be taken to have nominated for the AFS (unless otherwise advised).
