Registrations are now open for the 2018 Australian National Junior (Under 20) Championships. This event will be held at the State Fencing Centre in North Melbourne from 16 to 18 February 2018 - see preliminary timetable attached.

The event will also incorporate the 2018 Oceania Junior Championships  - however, there is no need to enter separately for the Oceania event.

Australian fencers should note that the Australian teams for the Oceania team events will be selected in accordance with sections A4.32 to A4.34 of the AFF Selection Policy from the fencers registered as at the close of normal registrations on 2 February 2018.

Australian fencers will need to ensure their 2018 State affiliation has been completed and processed in order to register for this event. Late registration fees apply from 2 February 2018, so be sure to register early!

The Australian Fencing Federation notes with sadness the passing of Australian Olympic fencer John Humphreys on 14th September 2017 aged 85.

John was an Australian National Epee Champion (1962 and 1963) and dual Olympian, representing Australia in epee in 1960 (Rome) and 1964 (Tokyo).

John also represented Australia at the World Fencing Championships in Montreal (1967) and Grenoble (1974), and at the Commonwealth Games in Perth (1962) and Jamaica (1966).

John continued fencing as a veteran, most recently winning the 70+ men’s epee event at the 2006 Australian and Oceania Open and Veteran Fencing Championships.

A Queenslander who played a role in establishing the original state fencing organisation, John was a life member of the Queensland Fencing Association.

A service celebrating John’s life will be held at Centenary Memorial Gardens, Wacol Station Road, Sumner, Brisbane, commencing at 1 pm on Monday, 25th September, 2017. (source: http://tributes.couriermail.com.au/notice/440912010
